Weather
It is August and it is supposed to be the hotest month of the year but somehow this year is a bit different. Let me explain what I mean by that:
Spring is my favourite season and I had some lovely days in France at the end of April. It was warm and sunny and everything started to bloom. I had to spent the first weekend of May, which is a bank holiday in Germany, at my parents - housesitting! Well, it was bloody cold and it even started to SNOW!
Summer was also a bit late, for the cold stayed till mid of June, it was not snowing anymore, but the thermometer never even got close to 20°C.And it was raining most of the time, so everybody was depressed and longing for a bit of sunschine. For those who do not speak German: It is summer - The rain is getting warmer!
As I already mentioned in one of the previous posts, I had to study for one of my final exams till the 9th of August. So perfectly timed, the hotest weeks of the year started mid of June and lasted till the beginning of August. With temperatures close to 40°C and no rain at all - which is quite unusual for Germany, especially if the heat lasts longer than one day - these weeks of studying where quite frustrating. As it was too hot to study at daytime, I settled on studying from 8pm to 2am in the garden. A friend of mine preferred studying from 5am to 10am!
Okay, exam over - heatwave over as well! Now that I have time to go to the nice lakes near Bamberg or to the swimming pool, it is too cold even to go outside without a jacket. Poor me! And it has been like this for three weeks now and it does not look like it is going to change soon. Probably it will change at the beginning of September, when I have to work again or we will step right into autumn.
The only thing I can look forward to is our planned holiday starting on the 19th of September - Corfu/Greece! Maybe I will get some sunshine there, for I am still as white as a sheet and that close to the end of summer! I envy all of those at the other site of the world where summer is close and spring even closer!Labels: Way of Life

the English spell the [sh] sound just "sh", not "sch" like in German, my dear "sunshine". was that the test? :-)
now, I truly sympathise with your weather frustrations, I felt the same quite a lot this summer. and you say in Germany it rains a lot? come visit Belgium! Especially now. I know, after a long summer with 37°+, everybody is complaining. For our renovation purposes though it is sort of better to have under 20°, but still. this morning I couldn't decide if it was December, May or even August outside.
don't you sometimes have the impression that the UK is actually the country where it rains less than in other parts?...
Oh my god, yes! It is just a cliché that it is always raining in the UK. I remember my holiday last year - 2 weeks withoug a single drop of rain! Or remember us playing tennis in shorts mid of November!!! Yesterday it was raining soo hard that the pipes could not hold the water anymore - kind of nightmare I would say!
Nadja, I've just read through all you wrote, and the only word coming to my lips is "great"! Your blog is VERY personal, reading it is like hearing you talking to me! I'm sorry the waether is so bad, come and see me and you'll see: the temperature reaches a proud 15 degrees outside and it's pouring with rain!
Hope there's sunshine in your mind though...

I agree that everything they say about the weather in the UK is just a lie. I guess during my time over there (almost 10 months) there were more sunshine days than in Germany.
And about problems with too much rain: In Mexico nothing seems to prepared for rain also the rainy season lasts at least 4 months. Driving in some parts just is impossible because the water is about 50cm high. And more stories to tell...
I hope you will have pure sunshine during your holidays!
There has been a slight improvement to the weather this afternoon:
thunderstorm and hail for 2 hours
There has been a Tornado in Nuremberg last night and it is starting to snow on 1600 m!
But there is a tiny bit of hope that it is getting warmer towards the weekend, just too sad, that I have to work from Saturday for the next 2 weeks...
